How to compare JSON files online

JSON comparison works best when both files use the same indentation and key ordering. Paste the original JSON into the left field, paste the newer JSON into the right field, select Format JSON if either side is minified, and then run the comparison. The result highlights added lines, removed lines, and modified values so you can review changes before updating an API payload, app setting, package file, or data export.

Use the original side for the version currently in production or the baseline export. Use the changed side for the version you plan to deploy, import, or share. This makes it easier to explain the difference: red means content existed before and is gone or changed, green means content was added, and yellow means the same line position changed.

Prepare both files

Remove secrets, private tokens, and customer data that should not be placed in any browser tool. If the JSON is copied from an API response, keep the full object structure intact.

Format before comparing

Pretty-print both versions so nested keys, arrays, booleans, and numbers appear on separate lines. This turns one long minified line into a readable review.

Review changed keys

Look for renamed keys, missing required fields, changed enum values, and array items that moved or disappeared. These changes often break integrations.
